Is life perfect? No. But there are pieces of life that are perfect and love filled and this backyard session and family are full of them. Family is not just clean and behaved but it is messy and surprising and those are the moments that mean the most to you. When the joy and love catches you off guard and sweeps you up by your toes. When you are so caught in the moment that you forget it was a moment but here it is captured to keep forever. I loved watching this family so intently I did not realize how much the they were, in turn, watching me. So much so that the little boy made his own camera out of a stick and took his own pictures. Kids catch everything. Kids are creative and limitless.
I remember when my own daughter was young she struggled with certain sounds and was in speech therapy. We were working really hard on short simple words. One breakfast when my back was turned she did the toddler bowl dump on the head and proudly shouted hat!! You are right baby girl. That is a hat. You are a complete mess but this imperfect messy moment is perfect to me. You said a word. You creatively problem solved a hat. I still have that picture. Kids are the best.
